Cottars Private House

Cottars Private House - Mara Conservancy

Located on a wooded hillside in the Olderikesi conservancy, outside the southesast corner of the Maasai Mara National Reserve, Cottar's Private House, also known as Cottar's Private Homestead, is a handsome, modern property on two floors. Only recently built, the house sweeps around the contours of the hillside, offering panoramic views from several balconies and verandas.

Cottar's Private House stands just above the main Cottar's 1920s Camp. The house was designed by its owners, Louise and Calvin Cottar, and the camp and private house share guides and vehicles.

The house has five ensuite bedroooms, the biggest of which, on the first floor, is a very large space and very comfortably furnished. There are two other bedrooms up here – one of them an almost completely open-plan bedroom-bathroom, and the other the second master bedroom, leading off the main lounge, featuring the muted colours, practical design and triangular windows of the other rooms, and including a spacious bathroom and its own private balcony.

One of the two downstairs bedrooms is very large and private with a particularly nice bathroom and a private verandah, while the other downstairs room is smaller, but of striking design, with a walk-in shower and a secluded sun trap of a verandah.

Safari Destinations

Zanzibar Beach

Just like Tanzania, Zanzibar is three hours in the advance of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT+3). It doesn't operate daylight saving time, and consequently there's no time difference between Zanzibar's summer and winter months.

Discover Uganda

Uganda is a truly “authentic” safari destination - definitely less sophisticated than Tanzania or Kenya in terms of infrastructure and not in the same “big game” league, but equally untouched and as genuine as Africa gets.
Uganda’s gorillas, chimps, birds and the wider range of special-interest attractions (from butterflies to orchids) makes it a perfect match for first timers and seasoned African visitors alike.

Visit Tanzania

Tanzania home to Africa's most dramatic and famous features.  Fantastic wildlife, stunning scenery and idyllic beaches Tanzania is virtually unrivalled in terms of wildlife population and diversity. From the biggest African plains, the Serengeti, to the highest African mountain, Mt Kilimanjaro, to the deepest African Lake Tanganyika.
Pemba offers classic tropical beaches to those wanting to get away from the crowds, whilst the Selous Game Reserve never disappoints those looking for lion and elephant!
